About us

Kadima is a family business. Created in 1982 by Bruce Hancock as manufacturers of domestic soft furniture supplying the local retail stores, Kadima eventually progressed to selling direct to the public in 1986. Joined by John McFarlane in the mid 1980s as a business partner Bruce continued the direction of well made but affordable furniture for the residential market well into the 1990s.

The family connection begins when John's son Scott joined the manufacturing team and Bruce's son Matt the sales and marketing team in the late 80's/early 90's.  The rest as they say, is history.  The next generation has expanded from the well built base made for them by the originals.  Reaching beyond residential only into commercial furniture, reupholstery services and specialist custom fitouts, the Kadima workshop casts a far wider net these days.

One thing hasn't changed.  Whether you purchased from Kadima 30 years ago or last week, you have owned a quality piece of locally made furniture, guaranteed.

Kadima is a very different upholstery store from the big retail franchises, primarily because we don't import "fast furniture".  Furniture in the wider market is made to entice you with convenience and price but falls well short of functional expectation, and there is a bit of a "cookie cutter" effect where most sofas out there look the same.  Being locally made, the Kadima workshop not only supplies you with a quality product that will give you better bang for your buck, we also make you what you want, to look and fit as you please.

Quality Materials

The fabric or leather that you select for your furniture is on the front line of use and wear, so it is imperative that it's the right product.  Select poorly, and the result is predictably bad.  Select well, and you'll sit on something that will perform well and require little or no remedial attention in years or decades to come.  Do you have a lot of sunlight, cats, kids, high use, in the dining area, in a theatrette, sitting indoor/outdoor etc etc, these are questions we will ask to assist you in finding the ideal covering.

Longevity is the best form of value, and with that in mind the Kadima workshop uses the best interior products and the best upholstery techniques.  We guarantee our work, and the pieces you take home from Kadima can become heirloom items, to be enjoyed by generations.

Come and see for yourself, we make the furniture on-site, and in front of your eyes if you wish.
