The Royal Hotel, Featherston
Ye olde style! That was the brief from the client. The Royal Hotel sits sentinel to the entrance of Wairarapa's gateway town of Featherston, and with a history longer than the Rimutaka Hill road the restoration project was one of daunting expectation among locals as well as historians.
Ultimately the client opted to retain the essence of the building whilst adding some cheeky Steam Punk to the theme, a nod to the history of the area, the quirky nature of the Hotel itself and the innumerable characters who had passed through over 150 years.
Kadima had to bring the best upholstery game in town to this project. A mix of reupholstery as well as creating new made seating to match the old. The effect is seamless, literally and figuratively. No one can tell which is the original seating and which is the reproduced, and with old school deep buttoned leather work all done by hand it speaks to the era and how things were done back in the day.
Premium grade New Zealand leather, deep buttoned diamond pattern backs, quality and an eye for detail. The result is something to be truly proud of.
